Instagram adds another way to promote your Instagram presence outside of the app, with a new option for embed a mini version of your Instagram profile on third party sites.
As you can see in this example, you will now be able to link to an Instagram profile directly on a website, providing another way to connect to a user, as opposed to specific content in the app.
As explained by the head of Instagram Adam mosséri:
“You can embed an Instagram photo or video into a website for many years now. This extends that idea and allows you to embed a thumbnail version of your Instagram profile on a website. Maybe you want to feature your Instagram content on a website somewhere, or link to someone else’s.
It’s hard to say how useful this will be. For many brands, you would ideally want people to stay on your website, instead of filtering them out on Instagram, although this can be another way to encourage an ongoing connection by referring visitors to your IG presence as well. You would also assume that most integrations, in the context of a blog post, would relate to a specific reference image or video, as opposed to an entire profile, but there could be use cases and opportunities for the tool – and having more connection capacity in this regard is always beneficial.
An example could be referring people to influencers your business has worked with who feature your products in their Instagram posts. Perhaps by logging into an IG account, it could serve as a visual storefront to add to your website images, while also improving community connection – and thus reach – within the app.
It can be used in a number of ways, although overall it seems less valuable than post integrations.
This is still another consideration. Instagram profile integrations are only available to US users at this point.
